LAHORE, Oct 15 (APP):Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, paid rich tribute to the 14 Punjab Police officials who embraced martyrdom in terrorist attacks on October 15, 2009.
Commemorating the 16th anniversary of the tragedy, the IGP Punjab said that the supreme sacrifices rendered by the brave officers in the line of duty will always be remembered with pride and honour. He said that the Punjab Police stand with the families of the martyrs and remain committed to upholding their legacy of courage and dedication. “We salute our heroes and their families. The sacrifices of our officers are the foundation of peace and security in the province,” he added.
A spokesperson for Punjab Police said that on this day in 2009, coordinated terrorist attacks were carried out at three locations in Lahore: the Elite Police Training School, the Police Training School Manawan, and the FIA Building. Fourteen police officials lost their lives while performing their duties with exemplary bravery.
According to details, ten officials were martyred in the attack on Police Training School Manawan, three in the assault on the Elite Police Training School, and one officer lost his life in a suicide blast at the FIA Building.
The martyred officers included two inspectors, two sub-inspectors, one assistant sub-inspector (ASI), one head constable, five constables, and three driver constables.
In the FIA Building suicide attack, Inspector Rana Farooq embraced martyrdom. At the Elite Police Training School, ASI Ghulam Jaffar, Constables Irfan Bukhari and Sajid Hussain Shah were martyred. In the attack on Manawan, Inspector Salamat Ali, Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Aslam, Head Constable Muhammad Tahir, Constables Muhammad Shakeel, Muhammad Asif, Shahid Ali, and Driver Constables Zaheer Ahmad, Saifullah, and Nasrullah laid down their lives.
