LAHORE, Oct 15 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has paid glowing tribute to the hard work, resilience and sacrifices of rural women, terming them the backbone of Punjab’s agricultural and economic strength.
In her message on the International Day of Rural Women, the CM said that the day aims to acknowledge the tireless efforts of rural women who contribute significantly to family welfare, community development and the provincial economy. She said rural women are a living example of hard work, compassion, responsibility and sacrifice, whose labour makes Punjab’s fields flourish, homes prosper and the economy grow.
CM Maryam Nawaz said the rural woman is not merely a worker but an active partner in Punjab’s journey towards development and progress, adding that the protection of every woman, including those in rural areas, was her red line.
She said the Punjab government had launched several initiatives to empower rural women by providing them with new opportunities, skills and facilities. Rural women, she added, were benefiting from the Kissan Card, Livestock Card and Himmat Card programmes.
The CM said all Basic Health Units across Punjab were being upgraded to ensure quality healthcare for rural women, while interest-free loans, laptops and educational scholarships were transforming the lives of rural daughters. Skill development programmes and livestock distribution schemes were also helping women achieve self-employment and economic independence, she added.
Maryam Nawaz said she wanted rural women to become not only farmers but also decision-makers and a strong economic force. She reiterated that the dream of a strong, self-reliant and prosperous Punjab could not be realized without the active role of rural women. She added that the establishment of Virtual Police Stations would ensure protection of women’s rights across all segments of society, reflecting the government’s commitment to building an inclusive and gender-equitable Punjab.
