SARGODHA, Oct 15 (APP): Pakistan’s junior hockey team delivered a memorable and thrilling performance against arch-rivals India, ending the contest in a hard-fought 3-3 draw.
The performance of Sargodha’s own Hamza Fayyaz and Basharat Ali in the crucial match has been lauded as a moment of pride for the entire city.
These thoughts were made by District Sports Officer Madam Saima Manzoor and Secretary of the District Hockey Association, Chaudhry Fayyaz Ahmed, praised the young team’s spirit in a joint statement on Wednesday. “Although the match was drawn at three goals each, the determination, skill, and courage our young players showed on the field was no less than a victory,” they said. They described the match as a tough, sensational, and nerve-wracking encounter in which the Pakistani players displayed extraordinary bravery.
“Under the leadership of captain Hannan Shahid, the entire team, including Sufyan Khan, Hamza Fayyaz, Zakaria, Rana Waleed, and Basharat Ali, played so magnificently that it made every Pakistani proud,” they added. Congratulations were extended to Chief Coach Kamran Ashraf, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Bugti, and Rana Mujahid, whose foresight, hard work, and guidance were credited for the team’s high-level performance. “This was not just a match, it was the restoration of national dignity, the dawn of a new day, a new hope, and the beginning of a new journey,” they concluded, expressing hope that the team would continue to work hard and bring more laurels to Pakistan on the international stage.
