ABBOTTABAD, Oct 15 (APP): Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Syed Atiq Shah, formally inaugurated the country’s first-ever double-docket court in Abbottabad a historic step aimed at providing timely justice and convenience to the public.
The newly established evening court will hear cases until 5:30 p.m., focusing on family disputes, tenancy cases, injunctions, and minor offences carrying sentences of less than three years. Civil Judge Ashfaq has been appointed as the first judge of this special court, which began its proceedings with a family case hearing soon after the inauguration.
Registrar of the Peshawar High Court, Muhammad Zaib, while briefing the media, said this is the first court of its kind in Pakistan, launched to facilitate citizens, particularly students with ongoing cases. He noted that the court’s jurisdiction includes cases requiring swift decisions such as family matters, tenancy disputes, and injunctions.
He added that the initiative is part of the vision of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, to ensure timely justice.
Similar evening courts will be established at other divisional headquarters to extend the benefits across the province.
Responding to media queries, the registrar expressed confidence that the establishment of evening courts will fulfill public expectations by providing access to justice even beyond regular court hours.
