MULTAN, Oct 15 (APP):Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) said on Wednesday power supply to numerous towns and villages was disrupted after transmission lines and electric poles were either submerged or uprooted. However, restoration work was in full swing, with electricity supply restored to nearly 85 per cent of the affected areas, while efforts were continuing for the remaining 15 per cent.
As many as 271,364 consumers were affected by the floods across the region. Out of 181 MEPCO feeders damaged by the deluge, supply from 94 feeders has been fully restored, 84 partially restored, while three feeders in Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil remain inactive due to high water levels.
Officials confirmed that no grid station was affected and only 11kV feeders sustained damage. Committees formed at the circle level are currently assessing infrastructure losses, which include fallen poles, damaged HT lines, and conductors. The assessment process is expected to take additional time as floodwaters have yet to recede in several areas.
Chief Executive Officer MEPCO Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid has directed all committees to ensure accurate data collection so that the final loss report can be forwarded to higher authorities. MEPCO officials reiterated that restoring uninterrupted power supply to all consumers remains their top priority.
