LAHORE, Oct 13 (APP): Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) Punjab on Price Control and Commodities Management Salma Butt has said that the recent increase in vegetable prices is primarily due to road blockages caused by border tensions, sit-ins, and protests that have disrupted the supply of vegetables and fruits to markets.
In a statement on Monday, she said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a significant decline in vegetable prices over the past one and a half years has provided relief to the public. “The current situation has temporarily affected supply chains, but alternative measures are being implemented to ensure smooth availability of essential items,” she added.
Salma Butt emphasized that profiteers exploiting the situation will not be shown any leniency. She directed the district administration and the PERA (Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority) to continue strict action against those involved in hoarding and overpricing.
