FAISALABAD, Oct 13 (APP):Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) vice president and former head of TEVTA District Board of Governors for Faisalabad and Chiniot, Engineer Asim Munir said that technology should be introduced as a compulsory subject in the matriculation curriculum to transform unskilled and semi-skilled labor force into a Hi-tech workforce.
Presenting recommendations to address the shortage of skilled manpower faced by industries, he said that across the world, rapid development depends not only on advanced machinery and technology but also on the availability of technically trained human resources.
Referring to the meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the German Ambassador, he said that both sides discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors, including technological advancement.
Germany had introduced an exemplary technical education system, which had made German products superior to those of the US, UK, and other developed European countries, he added.
Engr. Munir stressed that the model should be adapted according to Punjab’s local requirements to enhance both the productivity and quality of industrial output.
He mentioned that discussions were also underway regarding the transfer of modern industries from China to Pakistan, and it was essential to prepare a competent local workforce to meet the needs of these industries domestically and to export skilled manpower abroad to earn precious foreign exchange.
He observed that a large number of students discontinue education after matriculation; therefore, to provide them with respectable employment opportunities, they must be equipped with practical technological skills.
“This approach will not only help reduce unemployment but also improve industrial output, quality, and diversity, leading to enhancing exports”, he said and added that although technical subjects such as computer science, health sciences, agriculture, and fashion design have already been introduced in Punjab, there is a pressing need to include “Technology” as a separate and compulsory subject at the matriculation level.
“This would enable students to explore new technical dimensions within their respective fields and define new pathways for national growth and innovation”, he added.
