DERA ISMAIL KHAN , Oct 12 (APP): Gomal University’s Department of Psychology observed World Mental Health Day with a well-organized seminar and awareness walk at the Quaid-e-Azam Campus, highlighting the importance of mental well-being and psychological awareness among students and faculty.
The event was led by Assistant Professor and Chairperson of the Department Madam Maryam Siddique, while Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal attended as the chief guest. The ceremony was also graced by Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Dr. Naimatullah Khan, Dean Faculty of Management Sciences Professor Dr. Zahid Awan, Dean Faculty of Sciences Madam Asma Saeed, and a large number of faculty members and students.
As part of the commemoration, students set up informational stalls and participated in an awareness walk focusing on mental health challenges and their solutions. The Vice Chancellor and other guests visited the stalls and appreciated the students’ presentations on various psychological topics.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal lauded the Department of Psychology for organizing a meaningful event, saying that mental health is a crucial aspect of overall well-being. “A mentally strong person can contribute positively to society and lead a productive life,” he stated. He reaffirmed that Gomal University would continue supporting such initiatives to promote psychological literacy and encourage open discussions on mental health issues among the youth.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Naimatullah Khan, Principal Law College Siraj, and Madam Ayesha Siddiqua also shared their views, emphasizing the need to treat mental health issues with seriousness and empathy.
In her closing remarks, Chairperson Madam Maryam Siddique thanked the participants and guests for their support. She stressed that mental health challenges are often ignored in society, where people tend to rely on traditional remedies instead of seeking help from professionals. “Our aim is to break this stigma and spread awareness that mental illness is real and treatable,” she added.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of shields to the Vice Chancellor and the deans, while the organizing team received appreciation for successfully holding the World Mental Health Day event at Gomal University.
