LAHORE, Oct 09 (APP):The Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital Lahore has set a new world record by successfully treating 60 cancer tumors in a woman’s brain using advanced CyberKnife radiotherapy technology.
According to a hospital spokesperson on Thursday, the procedure marks a global milestone in cancer treatment, surpassing the previous record held by Japan, where 30 brain metastases (cancer tumors) had been treated. The groundbreaking treatment at Ghurki Hospital was made possible through the support of the government’s Sehat Card program and generous philanthropists.
The CyberKnife system is a highly precise and non-invasive radiotherapy technology that targets cancerous or non-cancerous tumors with pinpoint accuracy while preserving healthy tissues.
Head of the CyberKnife Department, Dr. Ayesha, said on the occasion, “We are extremely proud to have achieved this milestone. It reflects the tireless efforts and collaboration of our skilled team of oncologists, physicists, and medical staff. We remain committed to providing world-class, modern cancer care to our patients. The success of CyberKnife technology at Ghurki Hospital proves our dedication to advancing cancer treatment in Pakistan.”
Chairman of the hospital, Professor Dr. Aamir Aziz, congratulated the team, stating, “This remarkable achievement highlights our mission to offer the best free treatment facilities to those in need. So far, more than 1,000 patients have been successfully treated through CyberKnife at no cost — and with continued public support, this mission will go on, God willing.”
