LAHORE, Oct 08 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed the appeal of a convicted female drug smuggler and upheld her life imprisonment sentence handed down by a trial court.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa announced the verdict, maintaining the decision of the Narcotics Court dated January 24, 2024. The bench ruled that the evidence and witness testimonies had clearly established the accused’s guilt, leaving no basis for interference in the sentence.
While pronouncing the judgment, the court emphasized the need for strict action against serious crimes like drug trafficking, stating that such offenses contribute to social decay and the destruction of the younger generation.
During the proceedings, the Anti-Narcotics Force’s (ANF) counsel informed the court that the accused had a prior history of involvement in drug smuggling and was a record-holder offender.
The ANF registered a case against the woman, Rukhsana, in 2022 after recovering 51 kilograms of charas from her possession during a raid. She was arrested on the spot and charged under the relevant narcotics laws.
