LAHORE, Oct 08 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired an important meeting to review wheat cultivation and procurement plans, here on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Agriculture Department gave a detailed briefing on the province’s wheat reserves and the upcoming procurement strategy.
It was informed that there was no shortage of wheat in Punjab, as sufficient reserves are available across the province. The department also briefed the chief minister about a comprehensive plan to procure wheat for the next season in collaboration with the private sector. Under the plan, the Punjab government and private stakeholders will jointly purchase wheat from farmers at Rs 3,500 per maund.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reaffirmed her government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests, stating that “farmers are our brothers, and we will never leave them alone.” She highlighted that 1,000 tractors have been distributed free of cost among wheat farmers for the first time in Pakistan’s history.
The CM further said that agricultural inputs worth billions of rupees had been provided to wheat growers through the Kisan Card initiative, while all types of fertilizers are available in Punjab at controlled rates to facilitate the farming community.
