Federal Minister pays tribute to nation on ‘National Resilience Day’

ISLAMABAD, Oct 8 (APP):Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, paid tribute to the nation’s resolve and courage on the 20th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck Pakistan on October 8, 2005.
In his statement on the occasion of National Resilience Day, which is being observed on October 8, he appreciated the unity, sacrifices and spirit of the entire nation.
He also expressed solidarity with flood victims, commending their patience and resilience.
Federal Minister said that the earthquake that occurred twenty years ago was one of the most tragic days in the country’s history, taking thousands of precious lives and displacing millions. However, the solidarity, patience and perseverance shown by the nation in the aftermath of this tragedy remained a shining chapter in Pakistan’s national history.
He particularly remembered the martyrs and expressed solidarity with their bereaved families.
He recalled that after the earthquake, he personally visited the affected areas, served in relief camps and coordinated relief operations in collaboration with national and international organizations.
“I personally spent several days in Muzaffarabad, Balakot, and Bagh. I visited the injured, consoled bereaved families, and worked to ensure that aid reached every affected person,” he shared, adding that the spirit demonstrated by volunteers from across the country, the Pakistani military, civil society, and international organizations became an inspiring example for all.
He said, “We must not only remember the past but also strengthen our capacity to deal with natural disasters in the future.”
Federal Minister Engineer Amir Muqam added that the government was working to further improve the disaster management system to effectively respond to natural calamities, and new projects under consideration to train the public in disaster preparedness.
“This day reminds us that no matter how great the challenges, they can be overcome if we remain united,” he remarked.
At the end, the Federal Minister appealed to the nation to fully cooperate with the government in preparing for and taking precautionary measures against natural disasters, so that such tragedies can be better managed in the future.
