SARGODHA, Oct 08 (APP):Vice President of the Punjab Medical Association (PMA) Dr Sikandar Hayyat Warraich on Wednesday urged both the public and authorities to take preventive measures against dengue.
Speaking to the media, Dr Warraich emphasized the need for a coordinated response
to control the spread of the virus. “Dengue fever is a preventable disease if proper precautions are taken,” he said.
Explaining the nature of the illness, Dr Warraich noted that dengue is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, with symptoms typically appearing within one to two weeks.
“Early symptoms include high fever, severe body aches, joint and bone pain, and abdominal discomfort accompanied by vomiting. In severe cases, patients may experience bruising, nosebleeds, blood in urine, or vomiting of blood,” he warned.
He urged that anyone showing such symptoms should be taken immediately to the nearest
government hospital for proper medical care.
To prevent the spread of the disease, Dr Warraich advised the public to maintain cleanliness at homes, offices, and shops by cleaning at least two to three times a week and applying anti-mosquito sprays. “After spraying, doors and windows should be kept closed for at least one hour,” he added.
He further stressed the importance of covering all water storage containers—such as pots, drums, and tanks—and disposing of stagnant water from unused air coolers. “Water draining from air conditioners should not be allowed to collect, as it provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” he explained.
Dr. Warraich also recommended the use of mosquito repellents, nets, coils, and full-sleeved clothing.
He urged citizens to eliminate standing water from rooftops, flowerpots, containers, and old tires to reduce mosquito breeding.
