MULTAN, Oct 07 (APP):Senior officials of Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) said on Tuesday that line staff was the main segment of the Mepco hierarchy, pivotal in keeping the electricity supply system operational, and their safety at workplace was of paramount importance.
The views were expressed at a safety seminar, held at Mepco Musa Pak Division, Multan, on the instructions of Superintendent Engineer (Operations) Mepco Multan Circle, Amjad Nawaz Bhatti.
The seminar brought together officers, supervisors, union representatives, and field staff from across the Multan Circle. Addressing the participants, Deputy Director Technical Mepco Multan Circle, Malik Arif Wains, described the frontline line staff as the company’s most valuable asset. “Our workers ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to millions of consumers, but their own safety must remain our top priority,” he stressed. He warned that working without essential safety tools such as beepers, grounding, and T&P (tools and protective equipment) was equivalent to inviting accidents.
Executive Engineer Musa Pak Division, Engineer Ghulam Mohiuddin Maitla, urged staff to begin each task with the recitation of the Holy Quran for blessings and protection. He advised line staff to keep safety beepers in their pockets at all times and to thoroughly check grounding and protective gear before starting any work to avoid mishaps.
Incharge Safety Cell Mepco Multan Circle, Rana Muhammad Imran, underscored that negligence in adopting safety measures would not be tolerated. “Human life is our top priority. Any violation of safety protocols will be treated as a serious offense, and strict disciplinary action will be taken against responsible officers and staff,” he said. He instructed supervisory staff to remain present on-site, enforce safety standards, and regularly report compliance to the Circle Office.
Zonal Chairman Mepco Multan Circle, Rana Mazhar Latif, and Safety Inspector Sajjad Qaiser Bhutta also addressed the gathering, highlighting recent accidents caused by negligence.
The seminar concluded with a strong message: the protection of human life is paramount, and adherence to safety guidelines is essential for both personal well-being and Mepco’s continued progress.
