LAHORE, Oct 07 (APP):The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood alert for the Ganda Singhwala location on the Sutlej River, warning of the possibility of moderate flooding within the next two days.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, the Sutlej River is currently in a low flood condition at Ganda Singhwala, but rising water levels are expected due to potential releases from Indian reservoirs. The water flow in both the Sutlej and Ravi rivers is heavily dependent on upstream discharges from India.
Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, has instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab to stay vigilant. He stated that, on the directions of the Chief Minister, an alert has been issued to all relevant district administrations.
Rainfall is likely to increase the flow in rivers and nearby streams, particularly in vulnerable regions of Punjab.
Alerts have also been sent to departments including Health, Irrigation, Construction and Communications, Local Government, and Livestock to ensure preparedness.
Citizens are urged to take precautionary measures in response to possible adverse weather. In case of emergency, they are advised to contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
