LAHORE, Oct 05 (APP):Today, World Teachers’ Day is being celebrated worldwide, including in Pakistan, to honor the pivotal role teachers play in shaping society’s future. Established in 1994, this day highlights the importance of teachers and acknowledges their invaluable contribution to education and social development.
The dignity of teachers lies not only in their knowledge but also in their role as moral beacons, exemplifying professional ethics and earning respect through fair treatment and recognition. Educational experts emphasize that maintaining this dignity requires teachers to uphold high personal and professional standards while working collaboratively with students, parents, and the community.
For society, affirming the dignity of teachers means valuing their expertise, supporting their professional growth, and recognizing their essential role in driving progress. As the builders of the future, teachers provide children with the education and training necessary to succeed and find their place in the world.
Teachers themselves often say that students’ success is their greatest reward. Students, meanwhile, recognize that teachers do more than impart knowledge—they teach life skills and values that guide them beyond the classroom. A teacher is one who leads a student from the darkness of ignorance into the light of knowledge and skills.
Noted educationist Professor Dr. Fakhar-Ul-Haq Noori remarked that teachers elevate society by educating the next generation, fostering critical thinking, instilling positive values and ethics, and nurturing essential life skills. “As inspiring role models, teachers serve as beacons of knowledge, guides, and mentors who promote cultural understanding, compassion, and inclusivity,” he said. “By shaping informed and responsible citizens, teachers prepare students for future challenges and contribute fundamentally to a thriving society and better world.”
Professor Noori further stressed that the ethical principles guiding teachers are among their most valuable assets. The observance of a global day for teachers is an acknowledgment of their vital services. He called upon society to ensure that the respect and honor for teachers never diminishes in any way.
On this World Teachers’ Day, we salute the dedication and dignity of teachers worldwide, reaffirming our commitment to support and respect those who shape our collective future.
Mohammad Amin Saqib, a senior subject specialist, told APP that teaching is a unique and ideal profession worldwide. He emphasized that a good teacher never loses temper or patience and tailors their teaching to each student’s level of understanding and capacity.
Saqib further stated that teachers are the true builders of a good nation. Their influence extends far beyond the classroom, as they shape young minds and instill essential values, helping develop well-rounded citizens capable of navigating the dreams and challenges of society.
He added that teachers are the backbone of every nation—without them, no country can progress toward prosperity or sustain its freedom. Teachers are the voices that consistently advocate for justice, rights, and liberty. Throughout history, many brilliant personalities owe their knowledge and balanced upbringing to the guidance of their teachers.
