ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP):Islamabad reported 30 new dengue cases in the past 24 hours, while the district administration teams identified larvae at 1,804 sites across the city.
Health and administrative officials reviewed ongoing measures at a meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, who directed strict daily monitoring and warned that negligence would not be tolerated.
The session brought together health officials and medical experts who discussed practical strategies for eliminating mosquito larvae and containing the virus. The meeting emphasized the importance of joint planning and consistent field inspections to prevent further transmission.
Officials briefed the meeting that 30 dengue patients had been reported in the last 24 hours. Out of these, 11 cases were from rural areas and 19 from urban localities of Islamabad. The data highlighted the virus’s presence across both segments of the population, underscoring the need for citywide measures.
The briefing also noted that the new cases are in addition to those already under treatment in hospitals and healthcare centers, placing further strain on medical facilities.
During inspections, anti-dengue teams discovered larvae at 1,804 locations, while 65 inspected sites were found negative. These findings pointed to the widespread breeding of dengue mosquitoes in both residential and commercial areas.
Officials stressed that such large numbers reflect the urgency for consistent monitoring and public cooperation in identifying and eliminating potential breeding grounds. Stagnant water in open spaces, construction sites, and uncovered containers were identified as the primary sources.
As part of preventive efforts, anti-dengue teams carried out fogging operations at 1,271 locations across Islamabad. These included both rural settlements and urban neighborhoods, with priority given to areas where larvae were detected.
Fogging is being conducted regularly to target adult mosquitoes, but health experts emphasized that the long-term solution lies in eliminating larvae before they mature. For this, public participation was described as crucial, as households are often the first line of defense in removing stagnant water sources.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the relevant teams to ensure strict daily monitoring of anti-dengue measures. He made it clear that no negligence would be tolerated in carrying out inspections, fogging, and public awareness drives.
He further directed departments to maintain close coordination, emphasizing that timely reporting and swift response could significantly reduce the spread of dengue.
During the meeting, medical experts shared practical suggestions for controlling larvae and limiting the mosquito population. They recommended a combination of fogging, awareness campaigns, and strict enforcement against households or establishments that fail to follow preventive guidelines.
They also advised enhancing hospital preparedness to handle an expected rise in cases as the season progresses, ensuring adequate supply of medicines, blood testing kits, and trained staff.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to continue the anti-dengue campaign without interruption. Inspections, fogging, and public awareness activities will remain in full swing, with daily reports being compiled for review at the Commissioner’s office.
