ISLAMABAD, Oct 03 (APP):Senator Irfan Siddiqui Parliamentary Party Leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the Senate on Friday lauded the conducting of the National Press Club (NPC) inquiry as a positive step and stressed it must go beyond symbolic gestures and deliver real accountability.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Senator Siddiqui, who is also the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs , emphasized that any officials found guilty of misconduct or excessive actions must be held accountable under the law.
He called for a fully transparent investigation, highlighting the essential role of journalist organizations in ensuring credibility and justice.
Describing press clubs as the “sacred houses of journalism,” Siddiqui expressed deep regret over any violations of their sanctity.
He reiterated that violence against journalists performing their professional duties is unjustifiable and condemned such acts unequivocally.
Senator Siddiqui stressed the urgent need for concrete and lasting measures to prevent future incidents, underscoring the importance of safeguarding press freedom and ensuring the safety of media personnel across the country.
