Commissioner vows full support to WASA for improving water supply and sewerage services

FAISALABAD, Oct 03 (APP):Divisional Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar has visited Head Office of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) here on Friday and assured that all possible resources would be provided to overcome financial and operational challenges faced by the agency for improving it water supply and sewerage services.
During visit, Divisional Commissioner received a detailed briefing on WASA’s performance, sewerage operations, water supply, revenue recovery and foreign-funded projects from WASA Managing Director Sohail Qadir Cheema.
He said that 30 million-gallon-per-day water treatment plant is being executed with the support of the Agency for French Development. Hence, work on this project should be further expedited for its early competition.
He highlighted the mega project being completed with Denmark’s cooperation to make treated sewerage water usable for agricultural purposes.
He said that special focus should be laid on the capacity building of disposal stations to ensure quality drainage services for the citizens.
He said that backup power arrangements and procurement of new machinery for disposal stations would significantly improve WASA’s performance.
Commending the efforts of MD WASA Sohail Qadir Cheema, the divisional commissioner said that all ongoing projects were being executed efficiently under his leadership.
He assured that he would take up the case for more funds from the government for the construction of underground water tanks and other development schemes.
He said that politicians, media and other stakeholders would be taken on board to enhance performance and credibility of WASA.
He also directed WASA field teams to accelerate efforts to increase the number of commercial connections, thereby improving revenue recovery for the agency.
Meanwhile, Managing Director WASA informed the divisional commissioner that a plan had already been finalized to desilt roadside drain lines across the city before next monsoon season.
All resources would be utilized to ensure reliable water supply and sewerage services to the citizens of Faisalabad, he added.
