LAHORE, Oct 2 (APP):The Punjab government is set to expand its electric bus service in the provincial capital, with 40 new electric buses scheduled to begin operations from October 3.
According to official sources, the Punjab chief minister will inaugurate the new fleet
on October 3. With the addition of these 40 buses, the total number of electric buses
operating in the city will rise to 67.
Following the launch, existing routes will be reorganized to enhance coverage and efficiency.
The expansion marks a fresh chapter in the city’s journey toward eco-friendly public transport.
The new buses are equipped with modern facilities, including GPS, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and accessibility ramps for differently-abled passengers. Reserved seating areas, a separate section for women, and onboard CCTV cameras have also been installed to ensure passenger safety and prevent harassment.
The service is expected to benefit approximately 43,000 commuters daily. Passengers will be able to pay fares using digital wallets and cards, and real-time tracking of the buses will be available via a mobile app.
