PESHAWAR, Sep 24 (APP):British High Commissioner Jane Marriott met with Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Faisal Karim Kundi, at the Governor House in here on Wednesday. The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, bilateral cooperation, investment opportunities, and regional security.
During the meeting, the British High Commissioner expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by recent floods in KP. She conveyed the UK government’s solidarity with the affected communities.
Governor Kundi thanked the UK government for its timely humanitarian support to Pakistan in the aftermath of the floods.
He also highlighted key issues, including the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, governance reforms, security challenges, and Pak-Afghan relations.
Governor Kundi briefed the High Commissioner on KP’s vast natural resources, saying that the province offers immense opportunities for global investors. “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with its abundant natural resources, holds an attractive position for international investors. We welcome investment and enhanced trade cooperation from the UK and other friendly nations,” he said.
He emphasized that sustainable industrial and commercial growth in the province could pave the way for genuine development and prosperity.
The Governor underscored the potential of KP’s talented youth, stressing his commitment to promoting opportunities in education and sports. He called for greater UK support, particularly for skilled youth in the newly merged districts.
“Peace is the foundation of development and prosperity,” Kundi remarked, adding that the federal government and security forces are undertaking effective operations to ensure lasting stability in the province.
The Governor also spoke on the demographic shift following the merger of the former tribal areas into KP, and said that cross-border relations with Afghanistan remain a matter of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
“The people of Pakistan, especially those in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, share deep cultural and social values with the Afghan people,” he said.
