BEIJING, Aug. 28 (APP): Alibaba Group is strengthening its presence in Pakistan’s digital economy, leveraging mobile payment solutions, e-commerce platforms, and trade facilitation services to support local businesses and consumers.

Earlier this month, the company introduced Trade Assurance 2.0 in Pakistan, providing suppliers with advanced financial tools to reduce cost and credit risks, aiming to help them secure higher-value export orders.

In May, Alibaba also rolled out a comprehensive suite of online logistics services to streamline operations for Pakistani exporters, cut costs, and improve access to global markets.

“Since 2015, we have worked with partners in 10 countries and regions, including Pakistan, to build local digital wallets,” said Liu Xuefei, Director of Public Affairs at Alibaba Group. “These platforms now cover essential services such as food, clothing, housing, and transport, delivering tangible benefits to both consumers and small businesses.”

The company’s digital push in Pakistan began in 2018 when former State Bank of Pakistan Governor Tariq Bajwa tested QR code payments during a visit to Beijing’s Sanyuanli Market. After purchasing a bag of raisins via mobile payment, Bajwa voiced hope that similar innovations would soon benefit Pakistani consumers and merchants. Later that year, Ant Group partnered with Easypaisa, Pakistan’s leading mobile wallet, to launch a localized version of Alipay—bringing Chinese digital finance expertise to Pakistan, according to Chairman of Ant Group Jing Xiandong.

Currently, around 300,000 Pakistani products are listed on Alibaba’s platforms, with textiles ranking among the most popular categories worldwide. With the country’s e-commerce sector showing strong growth potential, Alibaba plans to provide technical training for local entrepreneurs to strengthen their global presence, Liu added.
