Commissioner reviews flood situation in Sargodha, Over 1,500 families evacuated

SARGODHA, Aug 28 (APP):Commissioner Jahanzaib Awan on Thursday visited settlements and adjoining areas of River Chenab to review the flood situation.
According to a press release from the commissioner’s office, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Shahzad Asif Khan accompanied him, while Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Waseem, Chief Engineer Canal Sadaqat Latif, Pak Army personnel, and other officials were also present.
The commissioner was briefed that more than 1,500 families living near the river had been shifted to safe locations. He stressed that the evacuation process had been completed and that the protection of human lives remained the administration’s top priority.
Officials informed him that a heavy flow of water was passing under Talibwala Bridge, while all departments were on high alert. Medical, livestock, and rescue camps were fully functional to assist the displaced families.
Commissioner Awan said all departments were working round-the-clock with full dedication, in line with the directives of Punjab chief minister, to ensure timely and effective relief measures. He reiterated that safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens was the foremost responsibility of the administration.
RPO Shahzad Asif Khan added that police, administration, and rescue teams were continuously patrolling flood-hit areas to monitor the situation closely.
Later, the commissioner and RPO visited flood relief camps and affected areas, including Takht Hazara Camp, Kacha Godna, Talibwala Bund, and Halalpur Camp, where they reviewed ongoing rescue and relief operations.
