ISLAMABAD, Aug 28 (APP): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq condemned India’s unlawful release of water into Pakistani rivers, calling it a violation of international laws, and expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and property caused by the recent floods in various districts of Punjab.
In a statement, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq strongly condemned India’s irresponsible act of releasing water into rivers without prior intimation. India, in grave violation of international laws, released an extraordinary volume of water all at once, which caused devastating floods in Pakistan and resulted in losses worth trillions.
He stressed that this action by India is not only against humanitarian principles but also constitutes a blatant breach of international regulations.
He said that the current year’s monsoon rains have caused an extraordinary rise in river water levels, causing severe difficulties for the people.
He emphasized that in this testing time, the Parliament and the entire nation stand in full solidarity with the affected brothers and sisters.The Speaker also directed the concerned authorities and district administrations to ensure timely and effective relief and rescue operations in the affected areas and to take concrete measures to provide all possible assistance to the victims. He also appealed to the residents living along the riverbanks to move to safer locations as a precautionary measure. He urged the public to adopt all necessary safety measures in view of the potential flood threats.
