ISLAMABAD, Aug 26 (APP):The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) marked the Prime Minister’s “Aik Baiti Aik Shajar” (One Daughter, One Tree) campaign with a tree plantation drive at Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9) on Tuesday, combining the celebration of daughters with a call for climate resilience and women’s empowerment.
The event, attended by senior government officials, civil society representatives, and international organizations, underscored the symbolic connection between nurturing trees and empowering girls as “pillars of Pakistan’s future.”
Speaking at the ceremony, NCSW Chairperson Ume Laila Azhar said, “Every tree planted represents hope, equality, and the future we envision for our daughters. Just as trees require care to grow strong, so too must girls be supported with dignity and opportunity.”
Minister of State for Education Wajiha Qamar highlighted the role of education in creating environmentally responsible citizens. “Empowering girls is central to achieving a sustainable future,” she noted, stressing that the campaign links environmental stewardship with social progress.
Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Saba Sadiq praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, saying the initiative reflects his vision of connecting women’s empowerment with national development. “Just as women were central to the independence movement, today they stand as champions of a greener, more resilient Pakistan,” she remarked.
The drive saw the participation of WWF Pakistan, UNICEF, the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), alongside NCSW staff and civil society members.
Together, they planted indigenous saplings across the park, each tree symbolizing the strength and potential of women and girls.
The “Aik Baiti Aik Shajar” campaign, launched under the Prime Minister’s National Green Pakistan program, aims to integrate women-led initiatives into climate resilience strategies while honoring daughters as blessings.
Organizers said the initiative reinforces NCSW’s mission to link gender equality with environmental protection. The event concluded with participants taking a collective pledge to sustain efforts for women’s empowerment, community engagement, and environmental conservation — a vision of a greener and more inclusive Pakistan where both daughters and nature thrive.
