RAWALPINDI, Aug 20 (APP): The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi is actively working to make the city green and beautiful by promoting tree plantation.
Along with working on various beautification projects across the city, the Authority was managing the growth of various types of flowers and plants in its nurseries to ensure self-sufficiency in availability of saplings for plantation, the PHA spokesman said on Wednesday.
The PHA, he said, was growing various types of plants in its nurseries on regular basis by sowing different kinds of seeds. It was always ensured to grow good breeds of plants, including shade trees and many other types, which were now proving to be helpful in enhancing the beauty of the city and promoting a green environment.
The spokesman said plants were also being grown through air layering process, “which often involves wrapping a moist rooting medium, around a wounded stem and securing it with plastic and tape, resembling a bundle”. The process in the common language was called “tying a bundle”.
“A bundle is tied to the wounded branch of the plant, from which its roots emerge, which after completing the growth process, is used for plantation.”
The saplings produced in the nurseries had been planted in different areas of the Rawalpindi city, which had not only increased the beauty but also promoted a green environment, he added.
PHA Director General Ahmed Hassan Ranjha appreciated the workers of nurseries for taking care of the growth process of flower plants and horticulture work with great skill.
The requirement of saplings for planting in the parks and green belts of the city, he said, was being met from the nurseries. The PHA had become self-sufficient in terms of availability of plants, he added.
Ranhja expressed the commitment that the Rawalpindi city would be made green as per the vision of the Punjab Government.
