Flood death toll reaches 385 in KP, PDMA reports

PESHAWAR, Aug 20 (APP): The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a comprehensive report detailing the extensive human and material toll from the recent spells of torrential rains and devastating flash floods that have struck Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The latest figures confirm a tragic death toll of 385 individuals, with an additional 182 people injured in various rain-related incidents across the province.
Among the deceased are 299 men, 52 women, and 34 children. The injured, numbering 182, comprise 145 men, 27 women, and 10 children.
The PDMA report states that a total of 1,398 houses have been damaged; 1,030 were partially destroyed, while 368 were completely razed to the ground, leaving countless families without shelter.
The district of Buner has borne the brunt of the disaster, emerging as the most severely affected with 228 fatalities. Swabi district follows, reporting a death toll of 41. Other significantly impacted districts include Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, and Battagram, where numerous fatal incidents have been reported.
In response to the escalating crisis, the PDMA has issued directives to all district administrations to intensify their relief operations. The authority has emphasized the urgent need to provide immediate assistance, including shelter, food, and medical supplies, to the affected families.
To coordinate the response and provide a channel for public aid, the PDMA’s Emergency Operations Center remains fully operational. The spokesperson urged citizens in need of help or seeking weather updates to contact the toll-free helpline 1700 for any emergency assistance.
