LAHORE, Aug 18 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that Yokohama and Punjab have agreed on “city-to-city” cooperation in multiple sectors, including environmental protection and modern urban development.
During her visit to Japan’s commercial, economic, and cultural hub, Yokohama, the CM and her delegation received a detailed briefing on urban development at Yokohama Town Hall, said a handout issued here on Monday.
She held discussions on enhancing the quality of road and building construction in Punjab to meet Japanese standards and explored avenues of cooperation between Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and Yokohama.
The CM, currently on a five-day official visit to Japan, also reviewed opportunities for collaboration in running a high-speed train service between Lahore and Islamabad, along with upgrading Punjab’s railway infrastructure. She was further briefed on Japan’s latest chairlift and air cabin projects.
Officials informed her that Tokyo, Kawasaki, and Yokohama collectively form Japan’s industrial zone, while Yokohama, the country’s second-largest city, was declared Asia’s most developed city in environmental improvement by the Asian Development Bank at its May 2025 annual conference.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that Punjab will greatly benefit from Japanese expertise in sustainable urban planning, pollution control, and modern transport infrastructure.
