GENEVA, Jul 31 (APP): National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, underscored the significance of enhanced parliamentary exchanges and technical collaboration in fostering institutional linkages and deepening mutual understanding between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
He noted that more frequent interactions between the National Assembly of Pakistan and the UK House of Commons are integral to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the UK House of Commons, held on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva on Thursday.
Emphasizing the historical depth and democratic foundations of Pakistan-UK relations, NA Speaker highlighted that enduring people-to-people connections and the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom remain central pillars of this longstanding partnership.
“The Pakistani-origin community in the UK serves as a vital bridge between our two nations,” he remarked, appreciating their sustained contributions and steadfast commitment to advancing bilateral ties.
During the meeting, both sides also exchanged views on key regional and global developments, including the situations in Palestine, the Middle East, and South Asia.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq briefed his counterpart on the grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), stressing that the continued denial of the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people remains the foremost obstacle to lasting peace and prosperity in South Asia.
The meeting concluded with both Speakers reaffirming their shared commitment to democratic values and the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing common challenges through sustained dialogue and cooperation.
