Gilani, Nepalese Speaker reaffirm strong ties, discuss enhanced cooperation

ISLAMABAD, Jul 30 (APP): Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nepal, Devraj Ghimire, reaffirmed the friendly and longstanding ties between Pakistan and Nepal, built on mutual respect, shared regional interests, and close people-to-people connections.
According to a news release, the two leaders met on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva.
During the meeting, Chairman Gilani expressed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its broad-based partnership with Nepal, especially in the fields of parliamentary diplomacy, trade, education, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Both leaders highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to promote peace and inclusive development.
They also supported joint efforts to tackle climate change, improve disaster resilience, and achieve sustainable development goals.
Speaker Devraj Ghimire appreciated Pakistan for offering scholarships to Nepali students to study at reputable institutions, noting that such academic linkages foster deeper people-to-people ties and long-term bilateral relationships.
Gilani invited Speaker Ghimire to attend the upcoming Speakers Conference in Islamabad, scheduled for November 11–12, 2025, which he graciously accepted.
