LAHORE, Jul 29 (APP):The district administration sealed 12 shops and imposed fines exceeding Rs 300,000 in a major crackdown against overpricing and hoarding, here on Tuesday.
During the enforcement drive, five FIRs were registered against serious violators. A special focus was placed on curbing artificial inflation in sugar prices, with more than 400 inspections conducted across Lahore. These efforts resulted in 63 detected violations, 33 FIRs, and the sealing of 31 additional shops dealing in overpriced or hoarded sugar.
DC Syed Musa Raza said that the administration is fully committed to ensuring that essential commodities remain available at government-notified prices. He confirmed that sugar is now being sold at Rs 173 per kilogram, as per official rates.
Assistant Commissioners and Price Control Magistrates remain active citywide, conducting regular inspections
and taking immediate action against violators.
Citizens have been encouraged to report instances of overpricing through the dedicated control room helpline (0307-0002345) or via the Deputy Commissioner’s official social media platforms.
The DC said that no one is above the law and assured that such actions will continue to uphold consumer rights and maintain market discipline throughout Lahore.
