RAWALPINDI, Jul 28 (APP):In response to recent urban flooding and mounting public concerns, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has launched a focused crackdown on illegal encroachments along nullahs.
Following the directions of Director General (DG) RDA, Kinza Murtaza, the enforcement squad demolished five dangerous buildings along the bank of the nullah, located at Mouza Dhamyal Kalyal, Rawalpindi.
The properties were a significant risk to the safety and were evacuated before the operation for the well-being of the occupants.
According to the RDA spokesman, this decisive move comes after heavy rainfall in the region caused flash flooding and highlighted the dangerous impact of encroachments on the city’s drainage infrastructure.
The Director General of RDA has issued strict directives to the enforcement squad to instigate immediate action against unauthorized constructions obstructing drainage and floodwater flow.
“Protecting lives and property is our top priority. Obstructions in natural water channels are a major cause of urban flooding, and we will not tolerate any negligence in this regard,” the DG said and added that the enforcement squad has been mobilized to identify and demolish all unlawful structures along key nullahs, including those in high-risk residential and commercial zones.
The RDA has also urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and refrain from constructing on or near nullahs, emphasising that strict legal action will be taken against violators per building and environmental regulations.
