Honour killing; court remanded six more suspects, exhumation conducted

RAWALPINDI, Jul 28 (APP):The court has granted police remand to six more suspects, including the deceased Sidra’s husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle and Jirga head, in the honour killing case.
The police have arrested and presented the suspects in the court of Civil Judge Qamar Abbas Tarar.
The police pleaded a 10-day physical remand for the suspects, identified as the victim’s alleged husband Zia-ur-Rehman, father-in-law Muhammad Saleh alias Saleem Khan, father Arab Gul, brother Zafarullah Arab, Jirga head Ismatullah and her uncle Mani Gul. However, the court granted a 4-day physical remand and handed the suspects over to the police.
The accused were brought to court under tight security arrangements.
After the arrest of six suspects, the police have detained a total of nine individuals in connection with the alleged honor killing of a young woman in Pirwadhai, following an illegal jirga’s verdict.
Additionally, a gravedigger, graveyard committee secretary, and rickshaw driver were taken into custody earlier.
On the other hand, following the court orders, the exhumation of the victim’s body for a forensic examination was conducted on Monday to determine the cause of death, which is expected to provide crucial evidence.
Dr. Ejaz Butt, MS Holy Family Hospital confirmed APP that the samples have been collected during the post martom examination, with Lady Dr. Misbah ur Rahman from the hospital among the team. He informed that the test samples have been sent to Lahore laboratory for the forensic report.
“The findings of the report will be submitted to the court, once received”, said Dr. Ejaz.
It is pertinent to mention that Syed Khalid Hamdani, the police chief while directly monitoring the case, has already constituted a high-level police team that is conducting raids to apprehend any remaining suspects and ensure a thorough investigation.
