QUETTA, Jul 26 (APP):In a groundbreaking development for healthcare in Balochistan, the first-ever Microwave Ablation (MVA) procedure for liver cancer (Hepatocellular Carcinoma – HCC) has been successfully performed at the Arya Medical Institute of Medical Sciences, Quetta. This marks a historic milestone in the province’s medical history.
The procedure was conducted by renowned interventional radiologist Dr. Nasir Yaqoob, who led the pioneering effort at Arya Hospital. This advancement brings world-class, minimally invasive treatment for liver cancer directly to the people of Balochistan, for the first time in the region’s history, said a press release issued here.
Microwave Ablation is a cutting-edge, image-guided technique that uses electromagnetic waves to precisely destroy cancerous tissue in the liver without the need for major surgery. It is known for being highly effective, with quicker recovery times and fewer complications.
“This is not just a medical achievement, it is a beacon of hope for thousands in the province,” said Dr. Yaqoob. “Patients who previously had to travel to major cities like Karachi or Lahore for this life-saving treatment can now access it in their own hometown.”
The availability of this advanced procedure is expected to significantly ease the burden on patients and their families, both financially and emotionally. It also represents a major leap forward in the decentralization of specialized healthcare services in Pakistan.
Medical professionals and local leaders have lauded this success as a critical step toward improving healthcare infrastructure in Balochistan, a region that has long struggled with limited access to advanced medical treatment.
