Rawalpindi’s water supply, sewage master plan to be made functional; Noor-ul-Amin Mengal

RAWALPINDI, Jul 26 (APP):Secretary for Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering, Punjab Captain (Retd.) Noor-ul-Amin Mengal on Saturday said that Rawalpindi’s sewage system would be expanded and made functional up to 100 per cent.
Presiding over a meeting to review the city’s water supply and sewage master plan, he said that 40 percent of the sewerage existing system in Rawalpindi would be taken to 100 percent under the Punjab Development Program.
The Secretary said that 28 million gallons of water would be supplied to the city after the construction of Charah Dam, while the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) would install water distribution networks and surface water treatment plants.
Nurul Amin Mengal said that underground water tanks would be built to conserve rainwater and wastewater treatment plants would be installed at sewage drain locations in Nullah Lai.
The water from sewage and rainwater drains will be used for agricultural purposes, he said and added that work would be carried out in collaboration with relevant institutions, while smart use of resources would be ensured.
Director General WASA Punjab Tayyab Farid and Managing Director WASA Rawalpindi Saleem Ashraf also gave a briefing to the Secretary about the ongoing formation of the water and sewerage system master plan.
