KP Govt approves over Rs 3 biillion for Agriculture University DIKhan upgradation project

Dera Ismail Khan , Jul 26 (APP):The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has approved a one-year neutral cost extension for the upgradation project of the Faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University, into the Agricultural University Dera Ismail Khan, officials said on Saturday.
According to the Planning and Development Department, the project will remain part of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025–26 and continue until June 30, 2026, without any increase in the approved cost.
A total of Rs3,109.700 million has been allocated for the project, with Rs3,055.304 million approved for the current financial year.
The project aims to enhance agricultural education and research in the region, and is expected to benefit farmers, students, and research institutions in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Bhakkar and adjoining areas.
Vice Chancellor of Agricultural University D.I. Khan, Professor Dr Shakeeb Ullah, in a statement, thanked Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, for approving the extension.
He said the initiative would promote agricultural research, modern farming technologies, efficient water usage, and vocational training for students.
“This is a major development for the southern districts and will contribute to food security and local economic growth,” Dr Shakeeb Ullah said.
He added that the university has the potential to provide academic and research services at par with international standards.
Farmers, students and education stakeholders in the region welcomed the extension, terming it a positive step for the agricultural and educational advancement of southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
