MULTAN, Jul 22 (APP):A late-night police encounter took place in the jurisdiction of Qutabpur Police Station near Pul Mozah Alamgir, resulting in the arrest of two notorious criminals involved in over 30 cases of robbery and armed theft.
According to police sources, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asim, along with ASI Matloob Hussain and other personnel, was conducting routine patrol and crime checking near the bridge at Mozah Alamgir. During the operation, the police team spotted four suspicious individuals riding two motorcycles. The officers signaled them to stop using torchlights but the suspects attempted to flee.
In an attempt to escape from the scene, the suspects opened an indiscriminate fire on the police party while the police also retaliated in self-defence. After a brief exchange of gunfire, two suspects were found injured, reportedly struck by their own accomplices’ bullets during the shootout.
The injured suspects were identified as Muhammad Ijaz s/o Saeed Ahmed and Bilal s/o Abdul Hameed.
The police recovered two 30-bore pistols and a stolen motorcycle. Meanwhile, two other suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Senior police officers of Muzaffarabad Circle reached the scene and shifted the injured suspects to Nishtar Hospital for medical treatment.
Legal proceedings are underway and a search operation has been launched to apprehend the remaining fugitives, police added.
