ISLAMABAD, Jul 22 (APP):Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives and property caused by torrential rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods in various parts of the country.
In a statement, Gilani said the tragedy at Babusar Top, where several lives were lost due to a cloudburst, was deeply saddening.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and the speedy recovery of the injured.
He said the entire nation stands in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time and emphasized the need for unity, compassion, and immediate practical measures to support them.
The Senate Chairman urged the government, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), provincial governments, and all relevant departments to carry out effective rescue and relief operations in the affected areas, particularly those hit by cloudbursts or landslides.
He stressed the need to ensure immediate medical assistance to the injured and provide shelter, food, and necessities to the displaced.
Highlighting the increasing impact of climate change, Gilani noted that developing countries like Pakistan are bearing the brunt of environmental shifts.
He said the recent heavy rains and cloudbursts are a reflection of this global phenomenon.
He called for a comprehensive revamp of the national disaster management framework to make it more effective, coordinated, and modern, so that future calamities can be dealt with in a better manner.
Gilani reaffirmed that the Upper House of Parliament has always stood with the people in times of crisis and will continue to play its part by mobilising all available resources and influence to address the needs of those affected.
