ESD responds to 1,305 emergencies in Punjab

LAHORE, Jul 20 (APP):The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,305 road traffic crashes in Punjab during the last 24 hours.
In these accidents, 12 people died, and 1,527 others were injured. As many as 624 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 903 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by the rescue medical teams.
Majority of accidents involved motorbikes, therefore effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline were essential to reduce the increasing number of road crashes.
The analysis showed that 812 drivers, 76 underage drivers, 173 pedestrians, and 554 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes. The statistics showed that 263 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 329 people, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 95 accidents and 120 victims and at third Multan with 70 accidents and 75 victims.
The details further revealed that 1,539 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 1,241 males and 298 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 334 were under 18 years of age, 788 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 417 victims were reported above 40 years of age.
According to the data, 1,234 motorbikes, 83 auto-rickshaws, 115 motorcars, 29 vans, 13 passenger buses, 43 truck and 113 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
