MULTAN, Jul 18 (APP):Punjab Food Authority(PFA) on Friday discarded 5,500 kilograms of rotten mangoes during inspection at a mango juice production unit.
According to an official spokesman,the inspection team conducted a timely raid at the unit located on Jitoi Road near Dani Adda.
During the operation,40 kilograms of expired products and five liters of chemicals,allegedly being prepared for use in juice production, were also destroyed.The plant owner was fined worth Rs.150,000.
Director General(DG) Food Authority,Asim Javed said that the juice was being produced using fungus-infected mangoes. He added that the operation prevented the harmful juice from reaching the market.
The DG appealed to the masses to prepare juices by using fresh fruits instead relying on stuff packed in quadruple or tetra packs.
