First ever conference to woo South Korean investors to Pakistan held

ISLAMABAD, Jun 25 (APP):The Embassy of Pakistan in South Korea hosted the maiden interactive session and investment conference in Seoul to attract the local investors to Pakistan by highlight the potential of foreign investment in the country.
The conference, titled “Emerging Pakistan: Opportunities for Bilateral Investment and Trade”, attracted more than 140 representatives from renowned Korean companies and conglomerates, said a press release received here Monday.
A special delegation from Pakistan comprising Secretary Board of Investment, Dr. Sumera Nazir Siddiqui, Secretary Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms , Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, senior representatives from Boards of Investment and Trade of KP and Punjab accompanied by senior business delegates also attended the event .
Addressing the event, Ambassador of Pakistan to Republic of Korea, Rahim Hayat Qureshi said Pakistan and Korea shared a long history of brotherly relations and the bilateral investment and trade should also reflect this deep relationship.
He believed that that a strong economic and business relationship was a prerequisite for stable, long term and sustainable people to people relations.
The ambassador said Pakistan, being the world’s largest population with 80 million middle class and blessed with rich human and natural resources, strategic location and political stability was an investment destination no global player could miss.
In his remarks, Ambassador of Korea to Pakistan Sung-Kyu Kwak, also the chief guest of the event, highlighted the improved security situation and business friendly policies of Pakistan making it an ideal investment destination for the Korean companies.
The representatives of the Korean companies benefited from the presentations by the delegates from Pakistan and bilateral interactions.
The conference also provided an opportunity to identify the increasingly important investment opportunities, such as Intellectual Investment like in universities, institutions and also in untapped sectors like tourism.
The bilateral trade between Pakistan and Korea stands at US$ 1.34 billion in 2017, having increased from US$ 828 million in 2015.
