Preventive steps taken ahead of monsoon storms: DC Sialkot

SIALKOT, Jul 17 (APP):Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali has said that in light of the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, preventive measures are being taken in Sialkot district to deal with possible monsoon storms.
She was addressing a joint meeting of the District Emergency Board and the District Disaster Management Authority held under her chairmanship in the DC Office Committee Room. Officers of all concerned institutions attended the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner directed in the meeting that the district administration, police, Rescue 1122 and other institutions should remain alert at all times so that a prompt and effective response can be ensured in any possible emergency situation.
She said that special safety measures should be taken in dilapidated buildings and low-lying areas, while an effective coordinated surveillance system should be kept active at the district level.
Deputy Commissioner directed to keep all disposal stations in a functional state and issue duty rosters for the staff deployed at the emergency rain camps.
Saba Asghar Ali also directed the concerned authorities to ensure timely availability of machinery. The public was appealed to avoid going near ponds, canals and rivers and avoid bathing in rainwater to avoid any loss of life.
District Emergency Control Room Sialkot has been activated 24 hours. Citizens can call 1718 for immediate information and assistance in any emergency situation.
She urged the citizens to fully cooperate with the district administration and relief agencies and ensure implementation of government instructions so that precious lives and properties can be protected.
