Poverty Alleviation Minister vows transparency and efficiency in BISP operations

ISLAMABAD, Jul 17 (APP):Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery in social protection programmes.
“Ensuring timely and effective support to the most vulnerable segments of society is our foremost responsibility,” the Minister stated during his visit to the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Central Zonal Office in Lahore.
He was warmly welcomed by Director General BISP Punjab, Muhammad Nasir Khalily, who gave a comprehensive briefing on BISP’s ongoing operations and outreach across the province, said a news release.
It was shared that under the Benazir Kafaalat Programme (Unconditional Cash Transfer), financial assistance is currently being disbursed to approximately 4.7 million deserving families in Punjab.
The Minister was also briefed on the impact of the Benazir Taleemi Wazaif (Conditional Cash Transfer for education), which has helped enroll 8.2 million children in schools across Punjab, significantly contributing to improving access to education for underprivileged communities.
The Benazir Nashonuma Programme, which supports the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating women as well as infants, was also highlighted as a vital intervention in the province’s fight against malnutrition.
Stressing the need for swift redressal of grievances, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah directed officials to strengthen complaint resolution mechanisms and ensure that beneficiaries’ concerns are addressed promptly and compassionately.
