MULTAN, Jul 17 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out extensive inspections across Multan, cracking down on the sale and production of substandard and expired food items. The operations were led by Director Operations South, Zubair Ahmad Ijaz.
A total of 20 food points—including bakeries, sweet shops, restaurants, and papad (crispy snack) manufacturing units—were inspected. During these inspections, 170 kilograms of expired and substandard food items were confiscated and destroyed on the spot. Two food businesses were sealed until improvement , while 15 food business operators were fined a total of Rs 490,000 for various violations.
The inspection sites included areas around Motorway M-5, Khooni Bridge, Shawala Basti Shujabad, Gulshan Market, and Gulshan Habib Colony. Food safety teams found insect-infested flour, expired bakery items, and poor sanitation conditions. As a result, a bakery and a general store were shut down until they meet food safety standards.
Heavy fines were imposed on multiple establishments for using substandard ingredients and storing expired products. A cold storage facility was penalized for having moldy fruits and stagnant dirty water, while a well-known restaurant on the motorway faced a hefty fine for poor hygiene and failure to use clean water.
DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javed, said that eliminating substandard food products from the market was top priority. All food business operators must strictly adhere to PFA regulations.
