RAWALPINDI, Jul 16 (APP):The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company is fully active and alert in terms of sanitation and water drainage during the ongoing monsoon rains under the Suthra Punjab programme.
“Despite the rain in urban, commercial and rural areas, the process of door-to-door waste collection, manual sweeping, and waste lifting is continuing without interruption,” an RWMC spokesman said on Wednesday.
As per the orders of Chief Executive Officer Rana Sajid Safdar, RWMC workers continuously remained present in the field, especially in low-lying and sensitive areas, cleaning the blocked manholes and drains during the rains as a quick response and ensuring the drainage process so that the citizens did not face any kind of problem, he added.
The spokesman said the RWMC officials conducted door-to-door and market awareness campaigns in Sadiqabad and other areas, appealing to citizens not to throw garbage or construction debris into drains, as “this practice obstructs drainage and leads to the breeding of dengue larvae”.
The citizens were also given messages not to allow stagnant water and maintain cleanliness around houses and shops, he added.
The spokesman further said the workers were working hard to achieve the goal of making rural areas of Rawalpindi zero waste.
The RWMC teams were on full alert in all districts of Rawalpindi division, he added.
CEO Rana Sajid Safdar, he said, kept him abreast about the ground situation during rain, giving necessary instructions to field officers.
