SIALKOT, Jul 14 (APP):Provincial Minister for Local Government Mian Zeeshan Rafique has said that the Punjab government is taking vigorous steps to make the local government system active and transparent.
He expressed these views while talking to the media in Daska. He said that within a month, the new Local Government Act will be approved by the assembly, after which the Election Commission will be informed in writing for holding elections.
He said that “third party validation” has been introduced to completely eliminate corruption in development works, due to which payments will be possible only according to the quality of work after the completion of the project. Contracts are being awarded on merit through e-tendering and digital payment systems, and this system has closed the doors of corruption, he added.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has generously provided funds for Daska’s development projects, the total cost of which is more than Rs. 5 billion. These projects include sewerage, road construction, clean drinking water and other basic amenities. Master planning has been completed for Daska keeping in mind the needs of the next 25 years. A permanent and comprehensive solution to the long-standing problems of sewage has also been proposed, he added.
Mian Zeeshan Rafique said that the people of Daska are aware and know that the completion of these development projects will permanently end the basic problems of the city. Talking about the political situation, the provincial minister said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government attacks Punjab and the federal government every six months, in which people and machinery are used in a systematic manner.
He alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s agenda is only to destroy the country and incite hatred against institutions, but the people have completely rejected the politics of chaos.
Speaking about the Swat tragedy, Mian Zeeshan Rafique said that this incident has made the entire country, especially Daska, mournful.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has healed the wounds of the affected families, while on the other hand, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has not only not admitted its mistake but also shown indifference, he dded.
