ISLAMABAD, Jun 22 (APP):The Appellate Tribunal on Friday issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Returning Officer (RO) after hearing a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)
chairman Imran Khan challenging the rejection of his nomination papers from NA-53 Islamabad.
The notices were issued by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani in hearing on Imran Khan’s plea today.
During the proceeding, the opponent’s lawyer argued that Imran Khan was not truthful and honest under Article 62-1 F of the Constitution.
He added that RO rejected objections of his client for not being voter of the said constituency and added that he, however, has the right to appeal.
Imran Khan’s counsel Babar Awan said that only voter of the relevant constituency could raise objections on a candidate.
He said that his client is being subjected to media trial and that they are speaking on the basis of unverified documents.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till Monday.
