Dera Ismail Khan , Jul 12 (APP):In view of the recent changes in weather patterns and the forecast of possible heavy rains, the district administration of Dera Ismail Khan has launched proactive measures across the district to ensure uninterrupted water flow and prevent urban flooding.
Under the supervision of the district administration and in collaboration with relevant departments, a large-scale cleanliness drive is underway. Teams from Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) and the Public Health Engineering Department are actively engaged in clearing storm water drains and desilting operations across various parts of the city.
A spokesperson for the district administration stated that all major and minor drains in the city were being desilted on priority basis to ensure smooth drainage during rains. Emergency response drills are also being conducted at river embankments to strengthen preparedness for any untoward situation, he said.
Simultaneously, in rural tehsils including Paharpur, Daraban and Paroa, the Irrigation Department has intensified efforts to clear irrigation canals and remove illegal encroachments under the guidance of local administration.
As a preventive measure, Section 144 has been imposed to restrict public entry into rivers, streams, and other water channels during rain spells. Citizens have been strongly advised to avoid bathing or residing near fast-flowing water bodies, and to refrain from disposing of solid waste into streams and drains, which could lead to blockages and flash flooding.
The district administration has urged the public to extend full cooperation by following safety guidelines and supporting sanitation departments in maintaining cleanliness, especially in flood-prone areas.
“We are committed to safeguarding lives and property, but community cooperation is essential in disaster prevention and management,” said a senior official from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.
The district government reiterated that all concerned departments remain on alert, and emergency response teams are ready to act promptly in case of any developing situation.
