Abbasi lauds Railways admin for achieving record Rs. 93bln revenue

LAHORE, Jul 11 (APP):Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has lauded the Pakistan Railways administration for achieving a historic milestone by generating a record revenue of Rs 93 billion during the fiscal year 2024–25.
Despite operating under limited resources, the institution has surpassed its previous financial performance, marking the highest revenue in its 78-year history.
In a statement issued on Friday, the minister described the achievement as a significant breakthrough and a testament to the dedication of railway employees. “I salute the workers who have poured their blood and sweat into the stability of this institution,” he said, attributing the success to their relentless efforts. He added that plans are underway to increase the contribution of freight services, with expectations that they will generate 70 per cent of the overall revenue in the next fiscal year.
According to official figures, passenger trains contributed Rs 47.5 billion to the total revenue, while freight services earned Rs 31.5 billion. Military traffic brought in Rs 1.5 billion, other coaching services contributed Rs 3 billion, and miscellaneous sources added another Rs 9.5 billion. The total revenue for the previous fiscal year stood at Rs 88 billion.
The Karachi Division led the passenger sector with Rs 14.75 billion, followed by Lahore with over Rs 11.25 billion. Headquarters and Multan Divisions earned Rs 5.25 billion and Rs 5 billion, respectively, while Sukkur generated Rs 4.8 billion and Rawalpindi Rs 4.7 billion. The Peshawar Division brought in Rs 1.25 billion, and Quetta contributed Rs 520 million.
In the freight sector, Karachi again emerged as the top earner with Rs 28 billion. Other contributions included Multan with Rs 1 billion, Lahore Rs 830 million, Peshawar Rs 770 million, Rawalpindi Rs 310 million, Sukkur Rs 280 million, and Quetta Rs 100 million.
Minister Abbasi emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the viability and potential of Pakistan Railways and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further strengthening the institution’s infrastructure and services.
