LAHORE, Jul 10 (APP):Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Secretary Azmat Mahmud Khan has taken serious notice of the lack of participation by the teaching faculty of cardiac institutions in postgraduate (PG) training programs for Level 3 and 4 trainees.
According to official records, 67 per cent of the teaching faculty in cardiac institutions are currently not involved in conducting PG training sessions for these advanced levels. The issue was addressed during an important meeting held on Thursday at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education.
In the meeting, it was directed that all teaching faculty members — from professors to assistant professors — must immediately contact the University of Health Sciences (UHS) to register as supervisors for postgraduate training. The department emphasized that active participation in Level 3 and Level 4 PG training is now considered a mandatory requirement for career advancement in medical teaching institutions.
Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University and President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), Professor Khalid Masood Gondal, and Vice Chancellor of University of Health Sciences, Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, also attended the meeting and supported the directive.
The department reiterated its commitment to raising the standard of medical education and ensuring that specialist training is conducted effectively in line with national healthcare goals.
